Know The Curator
Francisco has worked in one of the largest automobiles companies in Portugal - Santogal, and led their Premium Department, representing brands like Ferrari, Maserati, Jaguar and Mercedes-Benz, to name a few.
Since then, he has worked for clients across the world on acquisition, sale and valuation of classic vehicles, traveling Europe, attending major events, rallies and auctions. His expertise, extensive knowledge and experience led to his position today as Curator of the Bonte Foundation Classic Car Collection and Managing Director of Curated Garage.
Franciso is also pretty handy behind the wheel. His natural talent and experience in historical and endurance racing has given him several race wins and many memorable moments.
He leads a team of dedicated high-end professionals, with the core principle that "with great working freedom, comes great responsibility".

Como se compara um clássico com um carro mais atual? Para o Francisco, um Ferrari de 1977 está no ponto ideal para nos divertirmos.
Quando se trabalha com controlo de qualidade não temos problemas em garantir o nosso trabalho, como previsto por lei. O método e filosofia de trabalho são essenciais para que no final o serviço fique impecável.
Na segunda parte da conversa com o Francisco dentro do 308 nas estradas da Serra de Sintra, falamos sobre como as estradas evoluiram tornando os desportivos de antigamente quase sensatos nos dias de hoje.
E quando não há peças nem no mercado de peças usadas, como é que se faz para restaurar certos carros mais especiais? O Francisco responde: é preciso fabricar e adaptar e saber procurar, mas para isso é necessário saber. E é o nosso “know-how” que valoriza o nosso trabalho. Como é o caso deste Maserati Indy que demorou 3 anos a restaurar e o mais difícil foi o lindíssimo volante de três raios.
Quando pensamos na maior parte dos Ferrari dos dias de hoje pensamos em carros divertidos, desportivos, leves e com um V8. Tudo nasceu no 308 GTB que nos acompanhou numa alegre conversa na serra de Sintra. Segue e deixa um like para assistir a toda a conversa!
Muitas vezes é difícil explicar que certos carros não são comercialmente viáveis de serem restaurados. O que não significa que não possam ser recondicionados. Será apenas uma questão de semântica? Talvez não, o @classiccarcurator tenta mais uma vez explicar a diferença com diversos exemplos que temos na nossa garagem.
O Ghibli tem avançado a olhos vistos. Mas é um processo moroso que envolve muitas medidas, algum reverse engineering, muita arte e ciência! Só assim garantimos que o carro além de esteticamente irrepreensível vai manter a geometria original de fábrica!
Nas reparações os diagnósticos nem sempre são lineares, envolvem muita experiência e capacidade de análise. No caso deste Jaguar XKR uma manutenção negligente da parte de um anterior reparador deu um resultado complicado.
Fazer uma revisão profunda a um Volvo 244 Turbo, pode ser mais trabalhoso do que parece. Este exemplar é de 1983 e apesar de estar muito bem tratado precisava de alguma atenção. Levou uma boa revisão geral e trouxe algumas boas memórias ao Francisco.
E vocês, sabiam que se chamava burrinho ao pré-depósito de uma célula de combustível? O Gonçalo enquanto fazia uma manutenção ao “nosso” M3 de corrida e fez questão de me explicar e mostrar todo o sistema de pressurização de combustível.

This 1969 Porsche 911 2.0S was one of the most enjoyable and interesting projects our team has recently undertaken. It underwent a reconditioning, which included bare metal respray in the original Koffee Brown paint, while the upholstery received a unique and beautiful combination of caramel leather, complemented by a retro pepita pattern. This combination was a special order at the factory very much like the PTS program today. Additionally, a vintage Momo steering wheel was installed, complemented by the original basket weave interior panels. Mechanically the car has received a full service and an upgraded gear linkage for fast and smooth gear changes. A new costumer brought in a recently restored Porsche 911 by a renowned specialist that had a droning noise when driving. Usually it means worn parts or bad assembly.
The gearbox components that were damaged were identified and replaced, including the synchronizing rings, the crown wheel and pinion, and all the bearings, seals and gaskets. We also had to rebuild the Nadella axles that were totally gone!
